Ford safety leader, Sue Cischke, shifting gears and retiring

One of the most important women at Ford retiring

(WXYZ) - Sue Cischke has been the driving force behind safety at Ford for more than a dozen years. She has decided to shift gears and retire. Her safety team pioneered innovations like the inflatable seat belt to better protect rear seat passengers. Over the past year, she was instrumental in negotiating new fuel efficiency requirements with the White House.

Even though Cischke is leaving, she intends to stay active. She plans to encourage more young women to pursue careers in math, science and engineering.

During her 35 years in the industry, Cischke rose through the ranks at Chrysler and Ford to become one of the most important and influential women in the business.
