(WXYZ) - After two trunk fires, General Motors is recalling 42,904 vehicles. The recall affects the Chevy Malibu Eco, Buick LaCrosse and Buick Regal sedans due to a problem with the generator control module.
The 2012 and 2013 models affected are equipped with "eAssist" to operate the module.
GM reports most of the problems have occurred within the first 1,000 thousand miles of the vehicle's operation.
Drivers of these vehicles may experience a gradual loss of battery charge and a malfunction indicator may light up.
If the vehicle continues to be driven, the engine may stall or fail to start.
In addition, there is the potential for a fire in the trunk.
No injuries or crashes have been reported as a result of the fires.
GM will notify owners, but you may contact GM at 1-800-521-7300. The recall campaign number is 13136.
