(WXYZ) - Bloomberg is reporting that Ford Motor Company is planning to promote current President of the Americas Mark Fields to Chief Operating Officer in a move that would make him heir apparent to Chief Executive Officer Alan Mulally.
Bloomberg says the company's directors will make the move in the next month or so.
Ford declined to comment on the report.
If the report is correct, this would be the first time Mulally has had a COO since taking the reigns at Ford.
Fields has served as executive vice president of Ford and President of the Americas since October 2005.
In that position he is responsible for company operations in the United States, Canada, Mexico and South America.
Prior to his current roll, Fields headed up operations in Europe and President and CEO of Mazda.
