Strike deadline looms as CAW continues Detroit Three negotiations

Progress made with Ford

(WXYZ) - Time is of the essence for Canadian Auto Workers. As of midnight Tuesday a strike could be called.

Late Sunday afternoon CAW leadership held a press conference in Toronto saying Ford is bargaining in good faith and a deal is getting closer.

CAW President Ken Lewenza says Ford is the first of the Detroit Three to make a good faith effort to negotiate.

Lewenza says his 21,000 Detroit 3 workers are prepared to strike if needed. During the call Lewenza said GM and Chrysler are not yet showing a strong commitment to come to an agreement.

Leading up to this weekend's talks Lewenza says his membership was preparing to walk off the job if progress or a deal is not reached with the companies.
