UAW elects Dennis Williams as president, gave inaugural speech

DETROIT (WXYZ) - The UAW has elected Dennis Williams as the new president of the union.

Thursday, he gave his inaugural speech.

Williams has been the Secretary-Treasuer of the union since he was elected at the 35th Constitutional Convention on June 16, 2010.

He takes over for the retiring Bob King. King has been president of the UAW since June, 2010.

Williams is a veteran of the United State Marine Corps who has been a member of the union since joining UAW local 806 in 1977.

The UAW announced the election in a tweet on their official Twitter account.
