Black Friday: the secrets that will have you scoring bigger deals

(WXYZ) - There are a few Black Friday secrets we've learned that you should know whether you're waiting in line or shopping from your couch.

ONLINE DEALS

The National Retail Federation says 52% of shoppers will do some shopping online.
Michael Brim founder of bfads.net had a few tips for shopping online:
- A lot of stores are putting their online Black Friday sales starting at midnight, first thing Thanksgiving morning
- Brick and mortar stores often offer their best deals online deals on Thanksgiving day
- Online-only retailers  like Amazon, Overstock and New Egg, will offer some of their biggest price cuts on Cyber Monday.

NOT SO OBVIOUS DEAL

Brim says you might not be thinking about new appliances but you'll score big discounts around the holidays. He finds stores like Sears, Home Depot & Lowes generally have the best prices on washers, refrigerators, dryers and ranges this time of year.

NEW ELECTRONIC DEAL

There's a new trend this year.  Along with cheap prices on TVs and laptops, retailers are offering deep discounts on tablets.  Brim says some of the more price effective tablets are selling in the $100-$150 range.  They're not top tier tablets like the Google Nexus, but they'll do what most people are looking for.

NO DEAL ON APPLE PRODUCTS

One deal you won't score is a price break on Apple products because Apple has strict limits on discounts.  You might find retailers offering gift cards when you buy a regular price iPod or iPad.

BETTER DEALS CLOSER TO CHRISTMAS

Black Friday sales aren't always the best of the season.  The Wall Street Journal checked prices of 50 retailers and found outside the midnight doorbuster deals, prices on gifts from Barbies to blenders are lower two weeks before Christmas.
