GARDEN CITY, Mich. (WXYZ) - Sounds from a dumpster led workers to the startling discovery of a baby tossed in the trash. They plucked the newborn out of the garbage and saved her life.
It was 5:30 p.m., closing time at One Stop Collision on Middlebelt Road north of Cherry Hill Road. The owner of the shop told Garden City Police he was getting ready to take out the garbage when four young girls came into the store and said they heard a noise coming from the dumpster.
"So we walked over there and searched the dumpster and found a baby, in a bag, wrapped up," said Adam Farha, owner of One Stop Collision. "We ripped the bag open, there was a cord hanging out, and the baby was crying. We picked her up, took her inside the shop, and waited for the police to arrive."
Sources tell Action News that the baby girl is still alive and was taken to a hospital.
Police have located the mother. Officers aren't saying whether charges will be filed.
And Adam Farha, the man who found the baby, says he would like to adopt her.
