GREEN OAK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) - Human remains found on the side of a highway may end a mystery that has baffled investigators for more than four years.

The mystery of what happened to John Gilboe may have been solved Wednesday. A body found deep in a ravine by an M-DOT crew near U.S. 23 in Green Oak Township could be his.

The 62-year-old Gilboe from Hamburg Township disappeared in January of 2005. His car had run off the side of the road at exit 54B on northbound U.S. 23. Footprints were found in the snow, but he never turned up.

Investigators say the body found Wednesday--about 31 feet below the road and in a swampy area--is in the same location where Gilboe's car ran off the road.

If it is him, one theory is that he got out of his car, walked around, and collapsed in the heavy snow.
