Good Samaritans Pull Teen From Burning Car

Last Update: 11/04 4:47 pm
WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. (WXYZ) - A 17-year-old girl is recovering after being pulled from a burning car on Halsted Road.

Police say the girl only suffered minor injuries in the crash, in part because two passing drivers stopped to help her.  Lee Karson was one of the drivers. He says he was driving by when he saw the burning car.

Karson stopped and went to investigate. That's when he heard the young woman moaning. He called 911 as he returned to his car to get something to break out the window so he could reach the young woman. Once back at the burning car, Karson and the other driver got her out of the car.

Firefighters quickly arrived on the scene and began spraying water on the Ford Fusion, but it was at that point that the gas tank exploded.

Officials say they believe that if Karson and the other driver hadn't pulled her free, the woman would have been killed. Karson says he just did what anyone would do.
