General George Patton: "God, how I love it." Commenter "cheffie" writes about how the "whiteman they don't want it (sic)..." and elaborates on how the decay is the fault of the "whiteman." Every viewer knows that the destruction, graffiti and demise of Michigan Central has nothing to do with Caucasions. After the folks took control in 1967 and 1968 (anniversaries coming up) they proceeded to demonlish any semblance of civilization. As written in the book by Chavets, "Detroit is the place where the wheels first fell off of the wagon of civilization." But. Who's swimming against the tide in a useless effort. A bunch of Caucasion folks, cleaning debris from this rat hole. I guess that "cheffie" is unfamiliar with the concept of cleaning, and mistook their misplaced good deed for vandalism. Keep on goin', Detroit. You wanted it. You got it.

toonce69, you are so right, is it was built by the whiteman they don't want it, same with the homes in the historical neighborhoods, run them down and not give a damn. Not like chicago that's for sure, they restore not demolish. So detroit would rather have habitat for humanity homes that will last 15/20 years the way they are taken care of instead of something that stood for 100+ years. sad.

If you look how this facility was constructed.(It was massive structural overkill) it might cost you as much to demolish it as to put it to good use. Check it out ! If the Detroit scavengers had not damaged it so severely it might be workable. But then like so many other things in the city...the residents do not care because it is not MY problem. Typical !

No bigoted politican in Detroit want's ANY assistance from the suburbs to help fix up the town that was destroyed in the riots decades ago. They would rather allow Detroit turn into a third world country and cesspool of decay, than take any help from rich white suburban people. It's very sad.

It's because the racist bigots in charge of Detroit believe that the former great institutions that were built before the civil rights movements were built by and for white people, and that any building that excluded black people i.e. tiger stadium not allowing black baseball players, or the train station lunch counters, etc, are symbols of black oppression, and should decay and be torn down. The only problem with this theory, is that by the time they are done, there will be nothing left of detroit. Heck, they don't even want to fix up cobo hall, they would rather turn it into a delapitaded flea market.

I don't understand why Detroit and the owner of this building have not worked together to restore and bring life back to such a wonderful one time building? Why do city leaders overlook all the blight in this city, Does the whole city have to be a ghetto? Have we no pride in anything?
