EAST LANSING, Mich. (WXYZ) - Members of a fraternity at Michigan State University are grieving the sudden death of a brother and wondering what took his young life. For now, there are many questions and no easy answers to explain the death of a vibrant 22-year-old senior.
Brian McMillen's accomplishments didn't stop at Adrian High School where he was class valedictorian in 2005; they just continued at Michigan State, where the 22-year-old senior was double-majoring in chemistry and environmental soil science, and minoring in Spanish.
McMillen also served as historian for his fraternity, Alpha Gamma Rho, and as treasurer in the student senate for the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. He also spent a semester in Spain.
"He liked to crack jokes, liked to walk around the house and talk to everybody," said David McCalla, one of Brian's fraternity brothers.
His life, though, came to an end inside the frat house he loved so much. His roommate found him just before 6:00 a.m. Saturday.
"His roommate woke up in the morning to get a drink of water, and realized Brian was unresponsive," McCalla said.
Fraternity brothers say Brian had been drinking, but whether that played a role in his death is unclear right now.
