Two boys, ages 12 and 13, accused of stealing a car in Warren

WARREN, Mich. (WXYZ) - A 12-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy are accused of stealing a car in Warren.

Both boys are from Detroit and police say they stole Ariel Freeman's Sebring from outside her Warren home Wednesday night. She heard a noise, but when she looked outside her house she noticed her car was gone.

"To be honest, I was ready to fight because my car was stolen, but when I found out how old they were I felt bad for their parents because your kids shouldn't be out stealin' cars at 12 and 13," says Freeman.

Freeman called 911 after she noticed her car was missing. Police used her GPS tracking system to find it near 8 mile and Goddard.

They arrested a 12 and 13 year-old boy nearby. Investigators say the kids used a screwdriver to start the engine. They say they also found an air soft gun on the 12 year-old that looked like the real deal.

Investigators say that 12 year-old should have been locked up at the time Freeman's car was stolen.

The night before - they say that same kid was with a 22 year-old man and stole a Dodge Stratus in Warren.

They were both arrested, but the next day police say that 12 year-old was mistakenly released from the Macomb Co. Juvenile Detention Center - the same day Freeman's Sebring was stolen.

Investigators say they are looking into what happened, but they are also going after the parents of that 12 and 13 year-old with tickets for violating parental responsibility. It's a 90 misdemeanor that carries a $500 fine.

Warren police say those parents should have known the whereabouts of their child.

Both boys are in a juvenile detention facility. The 12 year-old is being held without bond. The 13-year-old is being held on a $500 bond.
