The 62-year-old semi truck driver accused of causing a fatal accident on US-23 this weekend is being held in the Livingston County Jail, according to Green Oak Charter Township police.

Two people were killed and one person was critically injured after the major crash Sunday afternoon.

Southbound US-23 was closed for hours at Lee Road in Green Oak Township due to the crash.

According to police, the semi driver lost control and slammed into the back of six cars. In all, nine vehicles were involved in the accident.

Police said the 62-year-old driving the semi truck failed to stop as he approached other vehicles on US-23. The truck slammed into multiple vehicles and left two occupants trapped.

A 51-year-old man from Milford was pronounced dead at the scene, police say. A 25-year-old woman was transported to the University of Michigan hospital with critical injuries.

A 52-year-old man from Davison was also pronounced dead at the scene, police added.

Police said the 62-year-old driver of the semi truck is being held for "committing a moving violation causing death of another person."
