(WXYZ) - Ann Arbor Police are investigating the beating of 74-year-old Young Kim, a Korean small businessman.
Kim had just closed the family business, Mary's Fabulous Chicken and Fish, when he was hit from behind at 10pm on Tuesday.
His wife Doo Kim says he has swelling on the brain and two gashes in his head, one requiring 11 staples to close it, the other 7 staples. Young Kim talked to 7 Action News Investigator Jim Kiertzner by phone from the hospital.
Mr. Kim says, "when I closed the store, somebody hit me." Kim says he did not see anyone, "it was too dark, they say nothing, they take my wallet."
Mr. Kim went to the party store next door. The owner did not recognize him because of so much blood on his face.
He then called police and EMS arrived to take him to the hospital. Police believe more than one person may be involved.
Anyone with information is being asked to call Ann Arbor Police.
On Thursday, Doo Kim reopened the restaurant and several longtime customers came in to eat, find out what happened and offer their condolences.
