Utica police say they have arrested a 74-year-old man for impersonating a dentist.

Velimir Krgovic or Rochester Hills is accused of practicing dentistry without a license at a business in the 45140 block of Cass Avenue in Utica.

Police say Krgovic performed a number of services including three root canals and removal of all crowns on a patient for $8,200 from January 2015 through March of 2016.

It was only after the patient continued to suffer from pain did she seek another dentist, according to police. Police say the licensed dentist then revealed to the woman that the work was done incorrectly and would cost $60,000 to repair.

Investigators began to look into Krgovic's background and discovered he didn't have a license, according to police. He reportedly told authorities that he went to dental school in Montenegro, but police say that could not be verified.

Krgovic was taken into custody on November 18. He is now facing charges related to the false personation of a health professional.
