The Michigan Humane Society and the Detroit Zoo, among other organizations, have teamed up for the 25th annual Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo this weekend.

One of the nation's largest adoption events, it will feature cats, kittens, dogs and puppies from organizations across the state.

The event will take place on Friday until 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

MHS expects 800 adoptable pets. Most will be available to go home with their adopters after the event.

Participating rescue groups have their own adoption procedures and fees. Some may require at-home visits prior to finalizing adoptions.

Anyone wishing to adopt must bring valid photo identification. All animals available for adoption will be spayed or neutered, if of age, and up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccines.

The event has 39 participating organizations, including the Michigan State Police, shelters from Genesee, Branch, Monroe, Livingston and Sanilac counties, and the cities of Warren, Madison Heights, Hazel Park and more.
