She was transported to a local hospital where she later died.
Police are asking anyone who saw the accident to call the department at 734.394.5449.
Eriksson Elementary School Principal Kevin M. Learned released the following statement Monday night:
Today was an incredibly difficult day for our school community. There are no words for a the tragic loss of a child. We will continue to keep this family in our thoughts and prayers.
Today has been about supporting this family, and now we look to provide support for our parents, students and staff. After school was dismissed this afternoon, parents were notified about this tragedy through an automated phone call. It is our belief that parents are the best people to talk with their children about a topic as heavy as this. Tomorrow, our district will be providing additional counseling support for students so we can begin the work of healing.
These are our youngest learners and we ask that you respect their need for normalcy and our attempts to protect and maintain an uninterrupted learning environment during this stressful time.
