It's a story that sent tails wagging - at least for one lucky little dog who was rescued from the ice of Lake St. Clair Tuesday.

Crew members from the local U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Bristol Bay found the dog stranded atop the ice and were able to safely hoist it onto the ship. The dog was found about 4 miles off the coast.

Once on board the ship, the dog was provided with food and first aid.

A Rejoyceful Animal Rescue assisted in transferring the dog to a vet's office for care.

The rescue group says the dog suffered from frostbite, was undernourished, dehydrated and had a pre-existing flea issue.

The Coast Guard Cutter Bristol Bay is a 140-foot ice-breaking tug based in Detroit.
