Detroit police unravel deadly murder-for-hire plot

(WXYZ) - A body found on Detroit’s west side has led to a twisting tale of revenge, murder and murder for hire.

The first clues came from a body found on Fullerton, near the Southfield Freeway. A businessman looking to purchase an abandoned property came across the body of 18-year-old Laquinta Logan. Near her body was a bloody blanket, a blue tarp and a knife. An autopsy revealed Logan was beaten, stabbed and shot in the head.

Police learned Logan was murdered because she knew a friend was involved in hiring someone to kill her husband, and profit from his $1 million life insurance policy.

Logan lived in the basement of Lakesha Peete’s home. Police sources say Lakesha hired someone to kill her husband. Police aren’t releasing his name or how he died, but Logan knew and Lakesha thought she could lose the money, so she plotted to kill the tenant.

Police believe Lakesha, along with her son Kenjuan Peete and his half-sister Daija Gatewood killed Logan in her home and dumped the body in a nearby building.

With Logan out of the picture, the three were hoping to cash in on the dead man’s new million dollar policy, but detectives say they had trouble getting the insurance money. Sources tell 7 Action News Kenuan Peete then took over his late father’s drug dealing business.

Detroit police solved the case through DNA and say Lakesha Peete, Kenjuan Peete and Diaija Gatewood have confessed.

All are facing multiple charges, including murder, murder-for-hire and drugs.
