1.The 19th Annual Ribs and R&B Music Festival

Expect to eat, drink, shop and revel in the festive atmosphere. Entertainment will be provided by popular acts like Chante Moore, Deon Yates, Kimmie Horne and more.

2. The 2014 Baltia Airlines Thunder Over Michigan Air Show

The United States Air Force Thunderbirds and the U.S. Army Golden Knights will take to the skies August 9-10 at the Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti, Michigan. 

Thunder Over Michigan will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 9-10. Tickets are $30 in advance or $35 on the day of the event; kids 15 and under are free

3. The Lions first pre-season game against the Cleveland Browns

The Detroit Lions football team is set to face off against the Cleveland Browns Saturday, August 9 at 7:30 in their first pre-season game of the season.

4. Once Around Belle Isle Paddle Festival

OABI (Once Around Bell Isle) is the first-ever paddle race and festival of its kind to take place in Detroit, featuring a seven-mile race around the island as well as the “paddlerama exhibition” featuring a series of onsite classes, demonstrations, contests, and sprint competitions.  OABI will also feature live music, craft beer, food trucks, local vendors and much more. Event attendees will have the opportunity to check out and try an array of new stand-up paddleboards, kayaks and crew throughout the festival grounds.

OABI will taking place on the shores of Belle Isle Beach, Detroit on Saturday, August 9, 2014.

5. Michigan's Longest Garage Sale 

Michigan's Longest Garage Sale covers 212 miles from Port Huron to New Buffalo on the Heritage Trail along U.S. 12 across southern Michigan. The event, which is in its 11th year, includes festivals and other events.

6. The Red Bull House of Art's new gallery

A showcase for new works will be held at The Redbull House of Art on Aug 8, from 7:00p.m.-11:00p.m.

Art from Eight separate artist's will be displayed.

7. The 5th annual Brighton Dance Festival

This event will begin on Sunday August 10, 2014, at 5:00 p.m. at the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts. The festival will kick-off with a beautiful concert of dance performed by professional dancers from throughout Michigan!

All registered students will receive a free ticket to the concert. Additional tickets are $10 advance sale, $15 at the door.
