A man wanted in connection with a string of metro Detroit robberies has been caught. Todd Raymond Keith is suspected of committing those crimes while dressed as a clown. Sources say he was caught near the Ohio-Kentucky border after a Delaware County, Ohio bank robbery.
Friday evening, police along that border were stopping cars in an effort to find the clown robber.
Schools in the area were locked down in order to keep buses off the road, but authorities told our sister station WCPO that they did not believe there was any threat to schools.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol told WCPO they believed Keith was in the woods in Aberdeen, Ohio. Residents in the area were told to lock their doors.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation was offering a $1,500 reward for anyone who can help to locate Keith.
Friday afternoon, some reports said Keith had been arrested after the Ohio bank robbery, but he was able to evade capture and fled into the woods.
The FBI, along with the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office, identified the 37-year-old as a suspect in two armed robberies here in Michigan where he was disguised as a clown.
According to the FBI, Keith is accused of robbing two banks in Ypsilanti, a Chase Bank on September 30 and a Key Bank on October 3.
In both instances, he was armed with a handgun.
The FBI says Keith is also being considered a person of interest in two October 6 hotel robberies in Livonia and an October 4 Walgreens robbery in Brownstown Township. He also may be connected to a carjacking of a black Lexus in Madison Heights.
Keith was seen driving that stolen Lexus in Ohio. The license plate is BGQ815.
Keith is described as a white male, 6'2", around 230 pounds with hazel eyes and black hair. He may be wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and khaki pants.
