(WXYZ) - More than 100,000 hockey fans packed the Big House in Ann Arbor for the chance to watch the 2014 Winter Classic. Some fans waited a long time and others came a long way.
"We bought ticket for the game that was suppose to be for last year," said Jeff Megave "We've had them for a long time."
Puneet Chadha came to Ann Arbor from London, Ontario to watch the hockey game with his young son. For them it is a long drive, but worth it.
The hockey experience spilled outside the stadium into area parking lots. Tailgaters set up shop outside, despite the frigid temperatures.
"It's freezing," said Matt Lewicki. "My left toe is so cold, its never been this cold before."
Fire pits and portable heaters were popular with many tailgaters.
Despite the disappointing loss, Red Wings fans say they were happy just to be a part of the experience.
