CLAY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) - A dad is asking for your help finding out who crashed into his daughter as she rode a jet ski in the St. Clair River. The boater and his two or three passengers then took off from the scene.
It happened on the 4th of July in Clay Township and investigators still don't have any suspects.
Cortney Kleiner, 19, told her dad that as she struggled in the water with head trauma, a cracked vertebrae, a broken rib, and lacerations to her spleen and liver, the boater kept trying to convince her to get back on her jet ski.
"The third time she said, 'No I can’t do it. Somebody has to take me to shore. I can’t breathe,'" said Richard Kleiner.
Richard Kleiner says the boater who hit her took off. Thankfully a witness helped Cortney. The young mom is thankful to be alive, but faces mounting medical bills and a long rehabilitation.
Her dad says the boater who left her needs to be held accountable. He is offering a $5000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
If you have information that could help in the case call the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office.
