(WXYZ) - A second child died Monday after a inner tubing accident on Sylvan Lake over the weekend.
An 11-year-old boy was pronounced dead on Sunday and hospital officials confirmed another child, a 6-year-old girl, also died as a result of her injuries.
A 10-year-old girl remains in critical condition at a local hospital after the three children were hit by a boat.
Boats and people crowded Sylvan Lake for what was supposed to be a fun Sunday in the sun.
"I just got finished cutting the grass and then I heard a loud bang," said Rick Kasoff. He said he will never forget the terrifying scream he heard next.
"A man yelling help, please, help God help. It was blood curdling the sound," said Kasoff.
The three siblings were on a large inner-tube style raft that was attached by rope to their father's personal water craft. Investigators say there was no one sitting behind the dad to serve as a spotter as required by law when towing others.
"Everyone was on the beach and everyone was really distraught running around. There were people helping out all over the place," said a man named Kevin who lives nearby.
A number of people who were also out on the lake, including the boater whose vessel struck them, quickly rendered aid to the children, an 11-year old boy and his two sisters, Adriana Mansour, 10, and 6-year-old Gabrielle Mansour.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Department said that the father was traveling north to south on the lake when the boat traveling west to east crashed into the kids.
"We saw them carry some people out on stretchers. One person had their head completely bandaged I could see from here. It wasn't a pretty sight," said Kasoff.
Neighbors said doctors living on the lake and others nearby who saw the accident ran to help the children and administer CPR.
"The kids were not as responsive as they wanted," said Kevin.
All three children were transported to McLaren Hospital in Pontiac. The 11-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The family is from West Bloomfield Township. Sources tell us they were at their summer cottage on the lake. Neighbors also told us that mother of the children had been on shore when the accident happened.
"I don't know that she saw it happen. But, she seen the aftermath of it and seen her kids out in the water. She was screaming. It was very, very, upsetting the whole thing," said Flo Kernen who lives down the street from where the accident happened.
We are told the 56-year-old Sylvan Lake man who hit the three children is just as distraught.
"He lives right down around on the lake and is supposed to be very good and been boating for a long, long time. Very good boater. What happened? I don't know what happened," said Kernen.
Police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the accident. Sources tell 7 Action News that the driver of the boat told police he did not see the children.
