KEEGO HARBOR, Mich. (WXYZ) - A family sitting at a table around dinner time nearly gets hit when a car crashed all the way through their home in Keego Harbor just west of Cass Lake.
Officials at the scene told 7 Action News three people were sitting down at a table inside the home when a Chrysler Sedan came crashing through the wall. The three suffered minor injuries and are currently staying at a friend's house, according to crews.
"It traveled completely through, not touching the floor," said West Bloomfield Fire Department Chief Jay Wiseman.
Fire crews had to extract the driver from the vehicle and he was taken to a local hospital. The chief said the driver was speeding down Cass Lake Front Road when he missed the corner and crashed into the home that sits on Grove Street.
"It's very lucky that these individuals were not sitting further over. And obviously if they had been sitting in the direct path of the vehicle it would have been a much different outcome," said Chief Wiseman.
Neighbors tell 7 Action News that two daughters and their mother were in the kitchen when the car flew by them and the dad was in the basement. "Very lucky," reiterated the fire chief.
The building inspector for the city has condemned the building; no word on whether the house will have to be torn down. The fire chief says the house is being held up by one main beam on the inside of the structure.
"The house is sitting in such a fashion with the car at its backside that they are trying to work out a plan to remove the vehicle and leave the house intact and drag the car along the side," said Chief Wiseman.
Crews carefully removed the Sedan without causing a collapse. The home has been boarded up. The street and local businesses briefly lost power when the car hit the home.
