ROSEVILLE, Mich. (WXYZ) - Most of us know what it's like to feel rushed all the time. As a busy wife and mother of two, Stefanie Staniszewski knows that feeling all too well.
One morning in early October, she was getting ready to take her two boys, ages 6 and 8, to school.
They were all in the car together in her own driveway in Roseville, but even though the car was running, she ran back to the house for a few seconds.
"I did get out of the car. I did leave it running. I wish I could go back and change that, but I can't," says Staniszewski.
In that short time, a stranger hopped into her Jeep and drove off with her boys in the back seat.
"My heart just sank," she says.
Now, Staniszewski is sharing her story for the first time. She takes us through each terrifying moment, including how she was run over by the carjacker while trying to stop him from driving off with her little boys.
You'll see how she and her family are doing now as they recover from that terrifying ordeal and she shares the lessons she learned.
It's a story you'll see only on 7 on Wednesday at 11.
