DETROIT (WXYZ) - Jayru Campbell, the 17-year-old quarterback for Cass Technical High School, could face a judge in 36th District Court as early as Friday on assault charges.
The case stems from Campbell body-slamming a school security officer Wednesday afternoon after Campbell reportedly refused to remove his hoodie that he had pulled up over his head, a violation of the school dress code.
Students captured cell phone video of the body slam.
Thankfully, we're told the security officer is expected to be okay.
Campbell, a junior, had verbally committed to playing for Michigan State University, but it's too soon for him to be eligible to sign a national letter of intent.
Campbell was taken into custody and remains locked up at the Detroit Detention Center.
Thursday afternoon, Action News reached Campbell's grandmother. She declined to talk on camera and ask that people pray for her grandson.
