Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix handing out 1,000 recreation passports on Belle Isle May 17

DETROIT (WXYZ) - The Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix is about two weeks away, but they are having a huge giveaway about a week before the race.

CDBIGP officials will be handing out recreational passports to owners of the first 1,000 Michigan-registered vehicles that don't have the passport.

Since the state took ownership, residents need a recreational passport to enter the island. The price for the passports is $11 a year.

The passports will be distributed on the island, next to Belle Isle shelter No. 9.
