Suspect in triple shooting that killed two, injured 7-year-old girl turns himself in at hospital

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Police say the suspect in Friday night's triple shooting the left two women dead and a 7-year-old girl critically injured has turned himself in.

Police say Ferdarius Shine shot and killed his 66-year-old grandmother and 48-year-old aunt. Officers say he also shot and critically injured his daughter.

It happened in Detroit on the 13500 block of Winthrop.

Taniesha Thurmond, 13, says she was approached by Shine around the time of the shooting while she walked down the street with some young relatives. Shine is an uncle to one of Thurmond's friends.

"He just came out and said, 'Do you all have Jesus in you all?' And he touched us, that's when we tried to run," Thurmond told 7 Action News.

She says she saw Thurmond pick a bicycle off a neighbor's porch and take-off.

At this point police are not saying what may have triggered the shooting.

Shine reportedly turned himself in Saturday morning at a local hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call either Detroit Police or Crime Stoppers at 1 800 SPEAK UP.
