Three-year-old may lose an eye after pitbull attack in Pontiac

(WXYZ) - A 3-year-old Pontiac boy is in the hospital after being mauled by a pit bull. 

Deputies say the child was playing with the dog in his back yard when it attacked him, leaving the boy with severe injuries.

7 Action News spoke with the neighbor who sold the dog to the family for $50.

"I feel really bad about it," says the neighbor who wishes to remain anonymous.

The dog attack happened on Melrose Drive in Pontiac on Wednesday night. Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies claim the dog was tied to a tree when a 3-year-old and an 8-year-old neighbor kid were playing with the dog in the backyard.

"There was nothing when I  had the dog. I had no problem with it, no violence, no showing teeth nothing like that. The dog was never aggressive," says the neighbor that sold the family of four the pit bull.

The 3-year-old boy received the brunt of the attack.

Deputies report the child has severe bites to the head, neck and face and may lose his left eye. The boy is facing multiple surgeries.

The neighborhood 8-year-old has injuries to his hands after deputies say he tried pulling the pit bull off of the toddler and received multiple stitches.

Deputies say the dog is current on all his vaccinations and is being held at an Oakland County animal shelter during an investigation.
