(WXYZ) - Investigators continue to root out corruption in Detroit at a time when the city is going through bankruptcy.
According the Detroit Office of Inspector General, 33 misdemeanor arrest warrants have been signed for employees and 18 of them are current workers.
They're charged with allegedly collecting nearly $400,000 by making false statements to the State of Michigan. Some of them were working full time when they got the unemployment checks dating back to 2008. They worked in various departments also.
"We've got so many amazing employees who work so hard under difficult conditions and I don't want the actions of a few employees to reflect badly on them" says City of Detroit Spokeswoman Alexis Wiley.
More charges could come soon. The Inspector General wants employees fired also.
