Clutch Cargo's in Pontiac to be restored into church

(WXYZ) - The former Clutch Cargo's nightclub in Pontiac will be renovated back into a place of worship.

Grace Centers of Hope and Grace Gospel Fellowship Church have come together to restore the former church that was turned into a nightclub.

The Luther Family of Oakland Township recently donated the property to Grace Gospel Fellowship.

A $2 million fundraising campaign has been launched to help renovate and restore the building.

The building has a main sanctuary with a balcony that will seat up to 650 people and an overflow space for an additional 100 people. Work on the building is scheduled to begin in January 2014.

"I believe that the local church is God's community, and next to family it is the building block of society," said Grace Gospel Fellowship Senior Pastor Kent W. Clark. "The purchase and restitution of this building is another example of the positive things happening in Pontiac in general. Neighborhoods are being restored and lives are being changed and the church brings both of these elements together."
