Cobo gears up for North American International Auto Show in Detroit

DETROIT (WXYZ) - A newly revamped Cobo Center will be ready for the global stage with North American International Auto Show.

The most stunning part is the new atrium that is three stories tall with glass windows that overlook the Detroit River. This replaces the old dark meeting room where the Detroit Economic Club held luncheons for decades.

The atrium will be the location for the Car and Truck of the Year and the ribbon cutting for the charity preview events.

A nearby grand ballroom will not be finished for the auto show, but will be done with the rest of the project by June.

This project has cost $279 Million and an additional $5 million has gone into the project through cost savings and grants for energy efficiency.

Visitors to the auto show will have 565 new parking spaces in the Washington Garage and can enjoy new fresh food choices during the public event of the auto show January 19-27.
