The man accused of stabbing and killing a Grosse Pointe Farms interior designer was back in court today. A judge is deciding whether David Corzillius should stand trial on murder charges.

The attorney for Corzilius is questioning whether his client actually caused Daniel Clancy to die. The 49-year-old was originally charged with Assault with Intent to Murder for the March stabbing attack of the well-known designer.   But seven weeks later, Clancy died in the hospital. That's when the Wayne County Prosecutor added the murder charge.

Grosse Pointe Farms police officers and detectives testified Tuesday in the preliminary exam that will determine whether this case heads to trial. But, the defense attorney wants to hear from the medical examiner before moving forward.

“Its unusual circumstances that someone passes away a month and a half, after a stabbing when all evidence points that he was recovering very well. So, I've asked for the Medical Examiner to come in and testify to give us not only his opinion but the causation of what actually occurred. Why did he pass away? Is it something that happened at the hospital, or something from these injuries,” said attorney Ali Khalil Hammoud.

This testimony will resume next week. Police have said in the past that Corzilius confessed to stabbing Clancy, after Corzilius demanded money from the 69-year-old designer.
