MONROE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A sheriff's deputy rescued a 25-year-old man after his kayak capsized in a Monroe County rock quarry.
The Monroe County sheriff's office says Saturday that deputy Michael McClain was on an unrelated call about 8 p.m. Friday when he saw the kayak tip over in Dunbar Quarry in Monroe Township, about 35 miles southwest of Detroit.
The deputy commandeered another kayak when the man began having trouble staying afloat in the middle of the quarry and screamed for help.
McClain paddled about 300 yards out to the man to keep him afloat. A second watercraft arrived to take the 25-year-old Monroe man to shore.
