(WXYZ) - It's the tale of a heartwarming reunion.
A Wayne County Sheriff's deputy was able to meet up with a boy he saved from icy waters in 1953.
The City of Romulus arranged the reunion between former deputy Nathaniel Butler and Robert Berch--who's now much older than 13 years old.
It's all part of the city's black history month celebration to honor African American leaders.
The story made the front page of the Detroit News in 1953.
Butler and his partner got the call that the boy fell through the ice on Belleville Lake.
Butler managed to pull the boy to safety, after falling in himself, and placed him in a rescue boat.
The two haven't seen each other since Butler retired in 1976.
Reunion organizers were able to track down Berch in Florida and put it all together.
