WXYZ - Next week thousands of children in the metro area will be heading back to school and today a disturbing new survey was released about the rise in pedestrian deaths in Detroit.
The Transportation for America group is listing the city of Detroit as the 12th most dangerous metro areas for pedestrians.
The study shows that between 2000 and 2009, 799 pedestrians were killed in Detroit, Warren and Livonia. In the state of Michigan there were 1,468 people killed during that time period.
The group found that nearly 50,000 people were killed over the nine year period in this country. Also that 688,000 were injured in pedestrian accidents.
Transportation for America is calling for better walkways for people and better street policies in cities across the country.
