Detroit police say officers were involved in a shootout this morning after they interrupted an armed robbery on the city's west side. Two 16-year-old suspects are now in custody.

It happened at a 24-hour CVS store on West McNichols and Wyoming.

The call came in at 4:58 a.m. and police were on the scene two minutes later, according to officials. We're told officers found one armed teen near the front door and took him into custody. Another armed teen was in the back of the store. As police started to follow him, investigators say he turned around and started firing. Police fired back and hit that teen multiple times. We're told he has non-life threatening injuries and is now in the hospital.

There were three employees inside the CVS at the time, including a security guard. Police say the armed teens disarmed that security guard and even held an elderly man hostage for a short time.

Clayton Bentley, who works across the street at Oscar's Coney Island, says that man came into the restaurant after the incident and was still "nervous and terrified".

Police say they're not sure exactly how many customers were inside the CVS at the time, but no customers, employees or officers were injured.

Prior to the attempted armed robbery at the CVS, police say those teens robbed a man out on the street.

Investigators are looking into reports of others being involved in the crimes. They will also be looking at surveillance video from the CVS and other nearby businesses to see if it offers any clues.
