(WXYZ) - There is a man hunt on the city’s west side. Police are searching for 19-year-old prisoner Kenneth Hickman who escaped from Sinai-Grace hospital just after 6 p.m. Wednesday evening.
Police say Hickman was arrested May 9 when he tried to rob a woman on Detroit’s east side. The suspect-- using a BB gun-- was shot by the woman with a carry and conceal permit.
Police tell Action News Hickman was brought to Sinai-Grace near Outer Drive and McNichols to be treated for his gunshot wound while in custody. An officer watching Hickman thought the prisoner was shackled to his hospital bed from his feet and took a short break.
"When the officer returned, Mr. Hickman had left," says Detroit Police First Assistant Chief Lashinda Houser.
Hickman has a medium brown complexion, with a thin build. Police say he was wearing a white T-shirt, burgundy scrub pants and tennis shoes, minus the shackles.
If you see Hickman, call 911.
The officer responsible for watching Hickman is now under investigation.
