"I thought I was dead for sure. I'm surprised that I'm still here," says a woman who was attacked late Tuesday night as she walked to a friend's house near the 19400 block of Van Dyke on Detroit's east side.
The victim, who did not want to be identified, says it appears her attacker is deaf and mute because he showed her a typed out proposition for sex he had on his phone.
The woman says she refused the man, who seemed agitated. She walked away and thought he did too, but moments later, the man came running at her with a knife.
The woman fought off her attacker and she believes several layers of clothing helped protect her torso, but she did sustain a stab wound in the arm and lacerations to her head.
The man ran off when she continued to scream and neighbors turned on their porch lights.
The attacker is described as being a black man, in his late teens or early 20s, with a dark complexion, standing about five feet nine inches tall with an average build.
And he's believed to be deaf and mute.
