(WXYZ) - Officials put the Detroit Zoo on partial lockdown after a visitor reported a chimpanzee loose on Thursday afternoon.
The zoo immediately put emergency procedures into place and the area around the polar bears and chimpanzees was on lockdown for about 15 minutes.
After investigating, zoo official concluded it was false alarm and no animal escaped their enclosure.
Visitors were tweeting that they were rushed into the cafe and souvenir shop until security accessed the situation.
"Security always steps in immediately and starts getting guests out of the area...and getting guests into buildings for shelter," said Chief Life Sciences Officer Scott Carter.
Scott says in his 22 years of work at the zoo, they have never had a chimpanzee escape.
