UPDATE: The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department said the unmarked school bus belongs to a new transportation company for the school.

It had not been repainted yet.

"The bus was on the correct route and nothing nefarious was going on," said Derrick Jackson, public information officer for Washtenaw County Sheriff. "It was just an unfortunate situation."

A metro Detroit school district has issued a warning after an unmarked school bus tried to pick up kids on Thursday morning.

According to Van Buren Public Schools, the unmarked bus was seen stopping in the West Willow neighborhood in Ypsilanti Township trying to pick up students.

The district is telling parents to not approach any bus that does not have clear markings of Van Buren Public Schools.

They say police have been contacted and the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
