Detroit firefighters rescue dog
(WXYZ) - A 2-year-old pitbull mix is recovering after she almost died in a house fire.
Her name is Bella and her owner, Rachel Pierce, was at work when flames and smoke fully engulfed her home on Detroit's east side.
When firefighters pulled the dog out of the house, they at first thought she was dead.
"We dragged it out and I saw its leg move," said Detroit firefighter Jeff Smith.
The dog lover himself began to do chest compressions on the pet and eventually gave Bella an oxygen mask.
"I didn't give up and it worked," said Smith. "All the guys jumped in and helped."
Bella was taken to the Michigan Humane Society in Detroit to recuperate. She is suffering from burns on her face and mouth.
She was released to her owner Saturday afternoon.
"I think it's great," said Pierce. "Thank you Detroit Fire Department for saving my dog."
