(WXYZ) - Investigators with the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department are looking for tips to solve at least
two cases of animal abuse in Kenockee Township.
The first case involved a dog named Chester. His owner says a couple of weeks ago, Chester went missing for six days.
He was found after the family heard whimpering. When they followed the sound, they found Chester's legs had been tied up with electrical fence wire and left for dead in the grass.
"I saw how bad it was. I had to cut him free to get him out. There was wire wrapped around 3 or 4 times each and then both legs wrapped together. He was in the Animal Hospital for a week," says Chester's owner Charles Hayden.
The other case of animal abuse happened just a few miles away and involves a 2 year-old Beagle named Buddy.
He went missing on Saturday and was found five days later after a neighbor heard some noises behind his property.
That neighbor alerted Buddy's owner Rick Leach who went to check on it. That's when Leach found Buddy tied to a branch with electrical fence wire.
"I felt so bad. He's like a family member," says Leach.
A third case of animal abuse has been reported to the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department, but
it has not been confirmed yet.
Chester and Buddy are recovering well and their owners are glad to have them back home. They're also hoping the person or people responsible for torturing their beloved pets will be caught.
"The only thing I can say is what is wrong with you? This is not how a normal person thinks," says Hayden.
"I just want him to be caught," says Leach.
