FBI raid home and business of former Detroit Public Schools official
(WXYZ) - The FBI raided the home and business of a former Detroit Public Schools official.
The FBI reports that she robbed the district of millions of dollars at the expense of students.
"Those kids need that money for education," said Melanie Long, a parent.
Melanie Long is another fed up frustrated parent at DPS. Her son has been beat up.
"Guys in the gang jumped on him. It was 30 guys in the gang and broke his rib," said Melanie.
The bruises are bad enough but now the FBI says a former district employee essentially paid herself nearly $6 million out of money for the program "No Child Left Behind."
According to a federal affidavit, several years back while employed at DPS, the district's director of Grant Development set up MI-Learning Unlimited or MI-LU to tutor kids and help with education.
Well, a day after her retirement, she allegedly had her husband receive the millions on behalf of the tutoring company she founded.
No arrests have been made so far. The FBI wants to hear from anyone else who might have information.
