Feds want $10.2 million from cancer doctor Farid Fata who is accused of mistreating patients

(WXYZ) - The federal government wants $10.2 million from accused cancer doctor Farid Fata along with his 2011 Acura RDX Turbo SUV and several real estate properties.

The 48-year-old Oakland Township doctor is charged with misdiagnosing and mistreating patients to bill millions of dollars to Medicare.

If also convicted on additional money laundering charges, the monetary fine to the government would increase.

Federal agents say Fata ordered the administration of chemotherapy to end-of-life patients who would not benefit from the treatment, and deliberately misdiagnosed patients without cancer to justify expensive testing.

Federal agents say Dr. Fata owned and operated Michigan Hematology Oncology Centers (MHO) which has offices in Clarkston, Bloomfield Hills, Lapeer, Sterling Heights and Oak Park.
