(WXYZ) - Most women with ovarian cancer miss out on treatments that could extend their lives by a year or more.
A new study shows women need to arm themselves with the right information for the best treatment and the facility that can deliver it. Flaws in the way women are treated with this disease could be the reason 15,000 American women die every year and nearly 22,000 new cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage.
Symptoms of ovarian cancer often mimic digestive problems-- but may not show up for years.
Doctors say women should ask their surgeons how often they operate on women with ovarian cancer before they agree to treatment.
