Suspect arrested in connection to slew of recent arson fires in Detroit

(WXYZ) DETROIT - Detroit Fire Department Arson Chief Charles Simms says a suspect has been arrested in connection with five overnight fires and possible a string of others over the past three weeks.

Early Monday morning fire crews battled a vacant apartment fire on Detroit's east side. The building was located on Lantz and Charleston St., just south of 7 Mile Rd. and John R.

The fire chief tells us the apartment was one of three buildings to go up in flames. The second two buildings are located on the corner 7 Mile and John R. The fire chief tells 7 Action News they were also unoccupied.

Crews battling the flames tell us all three fires are under control.
