Fitbit Force recalled due to rash complaints

The company who makes Fitbit Force is recalling 1,000,000 products in the U.S. after complaints the device can cause skin irritation, rashes and burns.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall on Wednesday. Fitbit had announced a voluntary recall in February, but some consumers said they did not know about it because it wasn't announced by the CPSC.

The CPSC says it's received 9,900 reports about skin irritation blamed on the device. The agency believes rashes could be due to the product's stainless steel casing, materials used in the strap or adhesives used to assemble the product.

The manufacturer has been testing the device in the lab and believes some people are suffering from allergic reactions.

The company plans to email all customers within the next few weeks to inform them of the recall.
