(WXYZ) - 7 Action News has confirmed former Detroit Police officer Larry Nevers has died.
Nevers passed away overnight from unknown causes. He was in his 70s.
Nevers was one of two Detroit Police officers convicted in the beating death of Malice Green on November 5, 1992.

The case garnered national attention after Nevers and his partner, Walter Budzyn were sent to jail for fatally beating Green with a heavy flashlight. Nevers and Budzyn struck Green more than a dozen times in the head.
Nevers' verdict was eventually overturned in federal court. He was then convicted for Involuntary Manslaughter and spent more time in prison.
Nevers was released in 2001 to serve the rest of his sentence at home after being diagnosed and treated with lung cancer.
In 2007 he published a book "Good Cop, Bad Verdict."
